Framing Your Existing Bathroom Mirrors – Everything You Need to Know!

There is a ton of information about framing your existing bathroom mirrors on YouTube and the internet in general. Everything from framing your mirrors for $30 to framing it with ceramic tiles.

The questions you might want to ask yourself are; how much of your time do you want to spend, do you have the proper skills and tools for the job and can you get material in the color and design you want?

The Hard Way to Frame a Mirror

Keep in mind that we are talking about a mirror that you already have attached to the bathroom wall and you do not want to go through the trouble of removing it, having to repair the damaged wall behind it. With that said, making your own frame and having it look good requires that you have the right tools and skills for a good outcome. If you have these skills & tools, framing your mirror may not be too difficult, but it will still take a lot of time between gathering the correct material and doing the job!

The simplest route would be to go to a home improvement store like Home Depot, Lowe’s or Ace Hardware, etc.., buy some crown or chair rail moulding for your frame, cut the corners, paint or stain the molding, then install it using an adhesive. A few problems with this method are; you are limited to the same moulding that is around the floor, doors and windows already in your home (not really something to make a statement with), it can get messy with the adhesive to adhere it to the mirror and it can be time consuming to get a professional finish when staining or painting. And how will you install so that your miter joints are tight and look good without leaving a gap in the corners?

Another option is that you might take a trip to a photo framing shop to select the molding you want, which can really give you a lot of options for style & color wise… But, that can get really expensive and the moulding has a rabbet on the inside edge, which can gather dust bunnies and looks a bit funny too. Plus, you will still have to install it using a messy adhesive.

For most of us, this is not really a simple project! Plan on spending your entire Saturday and/or Sunday to get this done.
